I think it would be cool if SP had featured albums, there are some really cool ones. I think it would make a nice addition to the front page, even if it were just one featured at a time. Just an idea.

I think there should not be.

Better to continue to encourage folks to submit informational pages rather than piles of photo albums. There are lots of nice photos and albums on SP, we don't need an excuse to make an order of magnitude more.

Agree with mrchad9 and his thankers. If you have an album idea, think about how to make it informational.

For displaying photography, I'd use a photography site.

Ok, ok, sorry for the idea. It's just what other photography site has a attachment system as good as sp? It's the attachment system in my opinion that has made this site so unique from most others. You can so easily create collections, themes, ect. related to mountaineering. But I guess the photo part of sp was my favorite part.

Maybe here is an idea...since you've waded through some amazing albums how about you curate them for us into an article called "The Best SP Albums 2002-2010" or something? Pick 10, and with a pithy reason for each one people would probably enjoy it.

I tend to think the best albums should be trip reports (if it's one trip) or articles (if it's about a subject like smiling girls on glaciers or Toblerone Chocolate on Summits, etc.). You really do have to wade through albums to find the good stuff.

I think that the possibility to order photos by creation date could be useful : album pages can contain also some info that could be useful to describe an hike or to give some basic info about small and little known ranges
