Topo maps of Baja - Mexico

by dennyboy » Thu Feb 10, 2011 7:51 pm

As usual, hard to find in ocal stores. I'm looking for official topo maps of Baja in Mexico.

I know they do exist, and that some people are lucky enough to get them I just cannot find where.

By any chance do you have one? or know were I can get it?

Best regards.

Try this.

Go to google.

Type in "Mexico topographic maps" in the box.

Then hit the "I'm feeling lucky" button.

No free ones for Mexico? :( I know, I know, people need to make money, but so far Canada and Us are the main free topo maps that I have found.

The Baja Almanac is the best thing for the Baja explorer,
http://www.baja-almanac.com/
It contains a complete set of road maps overlaid on topographic (contour lines)maps. It is not the best as far as topos, but is far better than simple road maps.
Probably great for 98% of users. $25 + $3 shipping.

The National Geographic "Adventure Map" of Baja North #3103 and Baja South #3104 are great. Very detailed, colorful, shading, but no contour lines. It is GPS compatible, with UTM grid.

In addition to those, I have an out-of-print book containing complete detailed topos. If you are needing a topo for a specific area, perhaps I can help with that. Northern Baja wilderness is my playground. The forum on http://www.bajanomad.com may also be of use.
My e-mail is ClimbBaja[at]aol{dot}com

This may not be convenient but most major university libraries have map rooms that either have a good selection of Mexican topos or the means to get you what you need, e.g. they may have a subscription to one of the paid web sites. The actual maps are much bigger than our USGS versions and flimsier (at least, this is what I've seen at my university library).
