Does anyone know how much new snow fell this past weekend? Toying with the idea of doing the bowl on Thursday if avy risk is low enough. Friday would possibly work as well.

7-8 inches in Wrightwood, likely a tiny bit more on Baldy. Snow down low as far as I can see from my backyard. Good view of Baden Powell.

So, possibly a foot of snow in the bowl. Not sure it will be too sketchy; plenty of sun the coming days but it's only a short time.

You could do register ridge! But I'd just cross the bowl quick and go up the left side and call it good!

Oh, of course. I'm mainly interested in the new layer of snow since the snow under it is likely to be consolidated enough.

I'd feel bad about destroying the ice on the crux but it probably wasn't going to get any thicker. And only a mad man would climb the chute directly above it!

Taco, you're right on east side is cold powder. I climbed the bowl today and the conditions are great, lots of sunshine this week has consolidated it nicely. Better to hit it early though as it was real soft on the way down baking in the sun. Pretty decent boot trail in now straight up from the hut, main trail looks good too. Looks like more snow tonight.

There will be a number of us in the western Bowl tomorrow morning, practicing snow travel techniques. Then we will head up to the summit in two groups, one via the Bowl and one via the summer route.

There is more information available at http://www.eispiraten.net, except the forum host has shit the bed this morning. You know who the real customers are when a website makes sure the ads are loaded before the content. When it can't reach the ad server: no content for you!

I'll plan to join you guys at Manker at 0600. I haven't practiced in a very long time. Just signed up for the San Gabriel Mtns board, waiting on admin approval.

Since I haven't been up there yet, how bad is parking expected to be at 0600 on a Saturday?

Cool. I got jammed up coming out of Vincent Gap last weekend, 8 1/2 hours. I'll be sure to charge the iPod.

LOL If the weather is fine, I never had too many issues coming out. It's when there is snow in the forecast that it is a good idea to avoid that area at all cost (unless it's during the week).
