An early member of Summitpost quit recently and gutted the heart of New Mexico and Texas peak pages. While many were deleted, the elves were able to save some and put them up for adoption. These represent some of the highest and most important peaks in the states. It is sad that some of the best peaks in NM and TX have been lost or gutted. Now is the time to contribute some excellent new pages and raise the quality level for Texas and New Mexico back to where it should be. I am only posting the pages currently up for adoption. I will post again regarding the pages that were deleted.

New Mexico

Lake Fork Peak - adopted

North Truchas Peak - adopted

Texas

Amon Carter Peak

El Capitan - adopted

There are several more in both states, particularly in the Pecos Wilderness, the Latir Peaks area and Guadalupe Mountains National Park. I am working on compiling a list of all the deleted pages and will post them soon.

I have summitted every peak in Guadalupe National Park except one. I can coordinate with other members to take on all of the remaining peaks in that National Park. I've got some great photos, can rebuild the gutted pages with the summit logs intact, etc. I'll can give those mountains a good home. I'm happy, though, to defer to anyone local / with a greater passion for the peaks in that park. No need for me to overstretch, here.

Sorry I can't help with the New Mexico peaks, nor with the Big Bend National Park peaks.

That sounds great Sarah. Honestly, that was the area I was most worried about recovering, since there are so few Texans posting stuff and many of those peaks are fairly obscure.

The peaks deleted are:

Bush Mountain
Bartlett Peak
Hunter Peak
Shumard Peak

Obviously, you saw El Capitan was up for adoption. I can't confirm it, but I think there may have been a page for Lost Peak as well. If you want to take it on, I would go full steam ahead until someone else steps up and says they are willing to take some on. You may want to check in with TXmountaineer though. He has not posted anything in a while, but it looks like he adopted Mount Pratt, one of the former members pages. Just so you know, I have all the topo maps for this region, if you are anyone else need them.

Let me know what's needed as I'm familiar with Texas and New Mexico having just moved to CA from Fort Worth.

1. Yes, Lost Peak was also "Lost" in all this. You can add that one to the list of peaks that need to be recovered/re-added.
2. I'll start with El Cap, first, as I've got plenty of Colorado and Arizona peaks sitting on the stove-top to add, as well. This will make space for others even more familiar with the area to contribute. Go ahead and assign me to El Cap. I'll work on getting material up there asap.
3. I'll send a note to TXmountaineer bringing this thread to his attention.
4. Duke - feel free to grab a peak or five out of the list Bubba presented. Seriously. Any contribution is appreciated!

Sounds good. Have you climbed any of the other peaks in the area? What about up in the Latir Peak area?

Unfortunately I did very little in Texas and spent most of my time in North Central NM. Think Wheeler Massif and eastward into Philmont country. Some other folks have spent some time in the same area. Mark Doiron (sp?) contributed to some conversations in TX and NM I believe.

I don't know what was deleted as I've really been focused on getting to know my new surroundings.

Done a few of the peaks around the Lake Peak and Penitente Peak Areas, hiked on the back side of the mountains also in and around Jacks Creek Campground and the Trailriders Ridge. Haven't done too much in the Latir Wilderness Area, a couple of basic entry hikes/scouting trips most of time in that area the last few times was spent bagging the peaks surronding Wheeler Peak and climbing in the Rio Grande Gorge. Do we have orphan pages ip there also?

Not exactly orphan. Several were just deleted, as well as many in the Pecos and down by Sierra Blanca. Northern New Mexico got hollowed out pretty bad. I am working on a list of all the deleted pages that need to be replaced.

I guess I should have mentioned that if you want to adopt the page, you need to alert the elves.

Email sent to the elves last night - awaitng response. Looks like its going to be a good spring in NM for hiking and climbing!!
