I'll be in the mpls area mid April for a couple of weeks...was wondering if I dare bring ice tools, or are things starting to melt out? Any good climbing gym recommendations?

Leave the tools at home you won't be able to use them. We're boating by the end of April here.

Hmmm...now I see why Minnesotans make insane road trips west for climbing. Not a fan of fishing; guess I'll just bring the Jagermiester.

Vertical Endeavors is the climbing gym, it's in St Paul, there is a bouldering cave at Midwest Mountaineering, near downtown MPLS.

There is outdoor climbing at Taylors Falls, ~1hr away from the cities, that's TR/trad on good basalt, or Red Wing, also ~1hr away from the cities, that's sport on limestone/dolomite.
Whereabouts in the cities will you be staying?
I was out last weekend at Taylors and it was great. I might be available to do some climbing, though I may be out of town on the weekends.

Ill be in town from the 12th to the 22nd with free time on the weekend (16th & 17th). I'm staying on the west side in the Golden Valley area. Sounds like I may be stuck to the plastic at VE.

If I'm in town and it's nice, I'll be climbing outside somewhere, and I'll let you know if that's the case.
