Banff/Canmore 9/15/12 - 9/24

by Marmaduke » Wed Jan 05, 2011 8:58 am

My wife and I are looking for a place for the week. It looks like on VRBO the rentals are for one month per local ordinance laws. We have an RCI exchange that you can likely pick where YOU want to go. If you have a place in Canmore we can exchange. Send me a PM
Troy

Edit- We will be there 9/15 - 9/24 this year, anybody else? We have a place too......send me a PM

Those condo's are fairly new and should be good. Possible reasons for being cheaper are the location near the highway as there may be some road noise and they are a little farther walking distance to downtown or restaurants, etc.

Thanks, looks like under a mile walk to downtown and the road noise won't bug us much. We'll be pretty tired from hiking- and the after hike drinks.

Well we are here in Canmore and we may have missed the great weather window they had, still stunning. I was here when I was 9 but appreciate much more now. I had, with the help of Dow, pick some mountains to hike in the area. But those were chosen over a year ago and are all walk-ups. I know I can research here on SP but anyone have any suggestions on some class 2/3 (no exposure) routes we can add to the mix? Thanks!

Lots to do but higher stuff is getting rain/snow
Dryer choices may be front range like Haling , Heart or Traverse of Yamnuska.
Indefatigable is easy and great views

I am in Dillon, MT now Troy...when I left, weather was still stellar, but if it has turned for the worst...remember, you can move up and down the range to move in and out of systems....Crowsnest is 10 times more dry than Banff and offers up some great scramble objectives.....Waterton is very scenic and might offer up a completely different weather pattern...you can also find completely different weather up in Jasper, again, tons of scrambles in the area...stay mobile, seek out the weather....man did we have a beautiful Sept...best I had seen in 12 years, hands down...had a big wedding ceremony outside this past Sat...women wore dresses and could have wore bathing suits if they wanted....just incredible...really hated to leave..but being a realist, know it won't last much longer, enjoy your trip

Thanks guys, the weather is starting to break, might get lucky. What about bear spray and grizzly's, are there times of the year when they basically are not around and then when they are? I don't want to spend money in a local shop because they want to make a sale when it's not needed. Or ALWAYS bring it?

Fairview is on our list, thx.

I never carry bear spray Troy...but admit when I was new to the area many years ago, folks had me convinced it was necessary. Since then, I have had over 20 on the ground encounters with black bears and grizzlies and never had an issue. How to behave is way more important than carrying bear spray. Just my opinion of course.
