I think he is trying to say that Appalachia ain't much compared to 14ers.

I have to agree no matter how pretty the trees are.

I just had a major talk with my land lord, which he lived in Florida in the 50's and 60's and says back in the day it was a great place to live. Much wild life, very remote places, all kinds of jungles and how the culture of the youth was outside most of the time. But he does admit that now days it's not like it used to be there.

Not really much of a thing these days...
And yes, beautiful mountains, brazilian rock climbing meca, but, as the other ones to East, 400km away.

Cheers!

Whoops, my bad! Confusing Rio and BA. I will remove my foot from mouth now.

Iowa isn't exactly summit friendly. And overall the hiking, paddling, biking, etc is not very spectacular. I do love it sometimes though...

Not to mention that a lot of it will be under water in a few years...

With over 25,000 square kms below 3.5 meters, about 15% of it's land mass could be submerged. But that's what second stories on houses are for, right?

I loved the Everglades and Keys, but other than that I hated Florida.

Only a day's drive to Colorado Rockies or the Medicine Bows in Wyoming. Hard day's drive to Winds, Bighorns, or Tetons.

There's a reason why there are two Cornhusker gift shops in Estes Park.

If an 8 hour drive isn't an issue, then Miami might be the only place where you wouldn't want to live (in the U.S.). Virtually all major cities/towns are within an 8 hour drive of a national/state, forest/park.

Yeah, but 5-8 hrs to Alpine Rockies and 8 hours to the hills of Georgia are two entirely different things.

What's your point? I'm obviously agreeing with you if you get down as far south as Miami. The Smoky Mountains are less than 10 hours from Orlando. I didn't mention anything about Georgia and the drive Arthur speaks of is almost 8 not 5 hours.

Down boy, down... take it east Duke. I was just suggesting that from Lincoln you can be in "hill country" with various geographic structures within 5 hours. State highpoint in Nebraska (while flat) is 5,524' - where as Florida is 345' and that's well into the panhandle.

Also, the seasons change in Nebraska and the people are charming.

Take the picture down, you'll ruin it. It'll be our secret.

Having a hard time living in Arizona lately - had to put the death on some red flying ants. Are there any ants in Florida ???
