Rough year in the national parks, it seems. Be careful out there (I know you folks know that).

Could be as benign as a heart attack. Or not.

Since he was solo, I wonder if we'll ever know. Sounds as if the evidence has been, uh, disturbed.

Condolences to the family.

After investigation, the NPS has concluded that this was a grizzly attack:

I've hiked solo in and around Yellowstone -- as have other SPers, I know -- but with current bear overpopulation and apparent food stress I think I'll take a break for a while.

Watch out. When I last declared my reluctance to hike around grizzlies SP's legion of Online Tough Guys called me a pansy.

You pansy.

Think I'll take a break, too.

A break from all the damn hordes of humanity, that is ... :D

Sad news, seems like grizzly's are on the move, this might be a good time to get out there since all the "normal people" will be to scared and the parks will be deserted?!

Any one of you ever read this book?

He did a lot of walking and observing in Yellowstone at all times of the year, particularly in the fall. Damn good stuff.
