New Feature: Front page Climber's Log

by atavist » Mon Sep 19, 2011 5:26 am

Why not put recently signed 'Climber's Log' entries onto the front page (similar to 'Recent Forum Posts')? I envision a few beneficial effects of this change:
1) It gives more visibility to the 'Climber's Log' feature and encourages users to contribute useful content to the site

Add a filter function to allow users to customize their feed to states/ranges/peaks of interest:
2) Constant feed of current conditions on routes and mountains of interest to every SP member
3) Facilitate community-building among local climbers and help find new partners

Allow users to sign peak/route 'Climber's Log' with a future date or an unspecified date (basically a virtual to-do list):
4) This can be planning tool or 'advertisement' to find partners for same objectives

Thoughts?

Pat: I like the idea of a "virtual to-do" list - presently, I sort-of manage mine in an online table and/or an offline file folder - not as convenient, dynamic and interactive as your suggestion. However, we really need to keep the "done list" (climbers' log) separate from the "to do" list.

FYI, your idea's been suggested before - but I hope that site administration / owners see this recent up-welling of new ideas as sign that SP members are highly engaged in this site and want to see it at its' best...that they see all this "recommended feature" activity as a sign that the time is right to make much-needed enhancements to this tool.

Cheers,
Sarah

Great idea! I hope it would not be too difficult to implement.

It depends on whether you see the glass as being half empty or half full.

Sounds like it would be (very) difficult to implement.

Then again, I'm NOT the management.
