Organ Mtns Conditions

by Garon Coriz » Sun Dec 11, 2011 1:30 am

Anybody have any news from the southern part of the state? I was hoping to play a little in the area (low 5th class) but I'd like to know about possible complications from snow and ice if there is any. Thanks!

here's a pic of the organs as of tuesday. I think its been a pretty warm week but bet there would be patches of snow here and there. These are my brother in law's pics, I wasn't there myself.

alright, i talked yo my brother in law last night and he said there is quite a bit of snow still up in the organs and there is a good possibility for more precipitation today and throughout the weekend.

I can tell you that I took my kids hiking on the Pine Tree Trail today, and there was much more snow than I expected. We ended up turning around near the halfway point because the trail was too hard to follow/ sun was going down. I'm guessing conditions are better on the West side of the mountains.

Just got back from the Organ Mountains

Went on a dayhike on Dec 26. I went up the needle route knowing I didn't have time to finish. Anyhow it was a beautiful day. I encountered knee deep snow at about 7500'. It was one of the best days of 2011 for me as living in Missouri has really changed my time in the mountains of the desert southwest.
