Lone Peak Winter Ascent.

by Wasatch Summits » Mon Feb 06, 2012 1:52 pm

Thought I would take the time to thank Zeejay, (Judy) and Moogie737 (Michael) for letting me join up on the Wasatch Mountain Club climb of Lone Peak last Saturday. It was a blast! It was also cool to meet Matthew VanHorn and Mooner on this one also, and several other members of the WMC up there. What a great day to get up there also, clear blue skies and hardly any wind at all! Judy led the way across the exposed ridge section to the summit like it was nothing, one excellent mountaineer! Michael organized an excellent event for this one, most everyone in the group summitted Saturday. Again I want to say thanks!

Here are some photos that I've taken, and some video footage.

Here is a link to the HD video on Youtube, shows a bit of approach, the final traverse in portions, and a bit of descent.

Thanks, it was a fun trip and hopefully next year's trip will go just as well. This one could not have gone any better. It's interesting to compare images of the ridge this year with previous years and note where the big holes are.

Just curious - who's the UAC ? Is that the Utah Avalanche Commission ???

I lived in Utah for 1/3 of my Life, and I was always (quite) apprehensive when I cruised State Street with my 8-track tape player cranked UP & blaring,
knowing there were actually people up there, rejoicing on snow-capped peaks like Olympus, Lone, and the mighty Timp ..

IMHO, you guys and gals freaking ROCK !! :!:

Always heard it was a bit exciting on the top of Lone Peak. Any good places to throw a sling or do a belay of some sort?

Yep, Judy ROCKED on the technical part of the ridge. Good to meet you C, you did some good trailbreaking. What a great trip. Let's do it again next year. Heck, I'll do it again in a couple of weeks.

Thanks, Twins.

I love it when they fire off those little miniature cannons to trigger avalanches, thus reducing the avy danger. IMHO, a very wise use of firepower ...
