Snow level?

by Brian Jenkins » Fri Jun 15, 2012 5:16 am

Forgive my ignorance of how the snow was this past winter in Utah but I find myself driving through in a couple days and want to try to get up something there. Is Pfeifferhorn this time of year a snow climb or a hike/scramble? Thanks.

The Phiefferhorn is pretty much clear of snow except in the upper reaches of Red Pine (not much)

Would you locals say you had a light, normal or heavy snow year this past winter?

I don't want to consider myself a local yet, so I won't speak for the locals...but the consensus definitely seems to be light.

This past winter was weak sauce for snow.

Hmmm .... we also had ANOTHER light snow year here in Arizona.

Makes me want to journey over the hills and far away ..

Love Zeppelin Larry. Great stuff.

Here is a shot of the Pfeifferhorn near the Box Elder Peak saddle on the north ridge this afternoon, to give an idea on the snow up there.

Thanks for the info. Ended up doing Cascade Mountain yesterday to play it safe and never touched snow on that one. Definitely hope to get back more to do some more peaks there. Timpanogos looked really nice from Cascade....
