Crossing Big Arroyo

by lbaradel » Wed Jul 11, 2012 5:56 am

Greetings,
we intend to climb Mt Kaweah and the shortest route from Big 5 Lakes would involve wading the Big Arroyo.

Given this is a low snow year, does anybody know whether it is possible to wade it safely? It would save several miles compared to go all the way north on the trail to meet the high sierra trail.

Thanks.

The snowmelt is more than a month ahead of normal. I'd bet you won't even have to get your feet wet crossing it this year in mid-July. Should be a piece of cake.

I was just there last weekend. I wouldn't bet on dry feet, but it's definitely low enough to be a piece of cake.
