Mt. Gilbert N. Couloir Conditions?

by saltlick » Thu Aug 30, 2012 9:35 am

Anyone taken a gander at the north side of Gilbert this week? Looking at a mid-Sept bid for iciness...

And for those more familiar with autumn alpine ice conditions in the area - fair to assume that conditions in N. Couloir of Gilbert match V-Notch conditions pretty damn close?

Your expertise is most appreciated.

The middle 2-300' section of Gibert's Couloir has been gone for over a month and half now. Highly advise to stay away as the upper section has a tendency to break off at times and plummet down onto the lower section when these conditions exists.

- The TRIAD's are ok but have a 30 foot high (vertical) shrund opening at the bottom.

- Moyner is in at the bottom-middle but dissipates to nothing as you ascend up high near the chockstone crux.

Below is a shot of the TRID's & the middle section of Moynier taken three weeks ago....

Any recent pics of the V-notch or the action on North Peak?

N Peak right couloir looked great from the ridge this weekend. The other two are only in about half way before rock takes over. You can see the right couloir in the distance in this shot.

Vielen Dank! Was checking out your #1 Left Couloir page the other day - was debating on heading that way or maybe the V-notch. These real-time condition pictures are priceless for we maggots who live so far away.
