How many SP members does it take to change a lightbulb?

by Scott » Thu Oct 25, 2012 2:36 pm

How many SP members does it take to change a lightbulb?

1 to change the light bulb and to post that the light bulb has been changed

14 to share similar experiences of changing light bulbs and how the light bulb could have been changed differently

7 to caution about the dangers of changing light bulbs

1 to move it to the Lighting section

2 to argue then move it to the Electricals section

7 to point out spelling/grammar errors in posts about changing light bulbs

5 to flame the spell checkers

3 to correct spelling/grammar flames

6 to argue over whether it's "lightbulb" or "light bulb" ... another

6 to condemn those 6 as stupid

2 industry professionals to inform the group that the proper term is "lamp"

15 know-it-alls who claim they were in the industry, and that "lightbulb" is perfectly correct

19 to post that this forum is not about light bulbs and to please take this discussion to a lightbulb forum

11 to defend the posting to this forum saying that we all use light bulbs and therefore the posts are relevant to this forum

36 to debate which method of changing light bulbs is superior, where to buy the best light bulbs, what brand of light bulbs work best for this technique and what brands are faulty

7 to post URL's where one can see examples of different light bulbs

4 to post that the URL's were posted incorrectly and then post the corrected URL's

3 to post about links they found from the URL's that are relevant to this group which makes light bulbs relevant to this group

13 to link all posts to date, quote them in their entirety including all headers and signatures, and add "Me too"

5 to post to the group that they will no longer post because they cannot handle the light bulb controversy

4 to say "didn't we go through this already a short time ago?"

13 to say "do a Google search on light bulbs before posting questions about light bulbs"

1 forum lurker to respond to the original post 6 months from now and start it all over again.

Sounds about right. Could add two more.

1 to point out how many it takes

1 to point out that you need one more to point out how many it takes :|

Shouldn't there be a seperate thread dedicated to removing the old light bulb? And probably links to a couple of trip reports from members detailing their experience with changing light bulbs.

1 to post Youtube videos that might be relevant to lightbulbs, in a punny way.

In the old days we'd have a half naked pic of a lightbulb by now.

1 to point out that the lightbulb forum would be better with SP version 1.
1 to point out that The Chief is the toughest badass light bulb changer of all of us.

Don't forget:

5 to ask about changing a light bulb with or without a guide service (and which ones were recommended)
2 to complain about rich people with no experience being dragged up the ladder to change the most visible bulbs so they can brag about it at their country club
2 to assert that the FA light changers read by candle light
2 to assert that ratings have creeped to the point where what now is considered a 100w bulb would have been a 50w bulb in 1980
4 to ask about appropriate boot choices when changing a light bulb
3 new members asking other members to critique their gear selection for changing a light bulb
3 to ask about the best training for changing a light bulb
1-2 to answer "Crossfit"
4 to discuss the merits of heart rate monitors when changing a light bulb
3 to post about how improperly discarded light bulbs are a blight on enivronment

7 to post about efficient lightbulbs reducing global warming
3 to post reminders about previous posts regarding improper disposal of lightbulbs being a blight on the environment
4 to argue about whether efficiency or proper disposal is more important to the environment
1 to bring up newer efficient lightbulbs that are less hazardous to handle and dispose of than the previous generation of bulbs
1 to ask which lightbulbs would be recommended for children
3 to post about longevity of different types of lightbulbs
1 to call everyone a bunch of hippies
3 to deny human involvement in global warming
3 to post rants denying global warming altogether
1 to make emotional appeals about bears

None of the above. Develop new insulation for the use in refrigerators/freezers/houses that is cheaper. Oh wait, it already exists in the form of micro balloons... Whining about lighting efficiencies is laughable. Lighting is all of 5%-15% of your electric usage at most.

If you really want to save energy, Make heat pumps cheaper and more affordable to install in homes. IE get rid of the damned regulations demanding insane COP values. For those who don't know what a heat pump is, you put 1 Watt of power in and get say, 3-5 Watts of power out through the use of Geothermal wells(takes about 2 per household), or using differential air temperature, or the sun. What is sad is that the regulations demand a high Coeffient of Performance. If there was such a thing as justice as long as it has a COP greater than 1 is should be allowed. IE any COP greater than 1 will save power. Instead most states demand a COP of 3 or greater. All I can say is that some manufacturer of electrical whole home heaters must have a strong lobby group.

The above would chop off about 50% of our electrical usage or more.

Arguing about lighting is laughable. Only because the average Jack/Jill can see the lighting somehow makes this miniscule usage of electricity a viable topic in which to "save" energy.
