I will be in Breckenridge on 2/19/13 for an interview. I have most of the day on the 20th to do whatever. Any suggestions would be grand, I don’t know the area to well, and don’t have time to do anything serious. I wouldn’t mind meeting up and hanging out with some locals, if not, I may just check out Denver, haven’t been there in 10 years.

Will you have warm gear, including boots? If so, there should be plenty to do. You can even climb a 14er (Sherman, Quandary, Democrat, or Lincoln). Sherman and Quandary at least do require snowshoes right now (but that could change with a big storm). There are several other places to snowshoe to various lakes in the area as well.

I'll check out some local lakes. I don't want to cram in a 14er, I know I would be miserable and not enjoy it much since I won't be acclimatized, or in shape. I'll pack some warm clothes and bring the snowshoes. Thanks for the info Scott.

hardy, still 140 lbs, just haven't been running at all. I consider myself in shape when I can run 10 miles with no problems. I have been ice climbing a bunch though but there's no way I'm dragging all my gear out there on such short notice.

Was thinking of going to the Denver museum of nature and science. I'll most likely do some snowshoeing instead.

If you go to the Museum of Nature and Science make sure to see the Gems & Minerals exhibit. They have a wall of rhodochrosite crystals from the Sweet Home Mine near fourteeners Democrat, Cameron, Lincoln & Bross.

If it snows you could always go skiing! And as Scott pointed out there are a lot of choices for easy or hard days in the hills.

Well, I just got home last night. I was able to dodge the snowstorm in the Midwest thankfully.

I did not have time to do any hiking, and was disappointed. The good news is, I got in two interviews and just last night got the job offer. I said I would think about it over the weekend, but as of now, it’s looking like the state of Colorado will be getting some new residents in the Breckenridge area of Summit County!

I was told there were over 150 applicants, and only a handful of those they interviewed. I feel very blessed to be in this position.

Look on the bright side, even without doing any hiking, at least you got to enjoy the nice scenery up their. There are times I go to Breck just to get out of the city even if I don't do any hiking.
Now you'll have more time to look over maps and plan for better trips since you'll be living up there. Much better than a hit and run weekend.
