I am doing some research on Denali and want to know if anyone has any information on Dr. Miri Ercolani who was supposedly the first solo female to climb Denali. She did this in 1982. I am also interested in communicating with anyone who knew my friend, Alan Chase, who disappeared on Denali in 1980.

Read page 75 of Jonathan Waterman's In the Shadow of Denali: Life and Death on Alaska's Mt. McKinley. Some have disputed Ercolani's claim.

Hmm. I hadn't heard of this, but Ercolani has another significant ascent claim disputed - the first ascent of Gasherbrum VI in 1985, I think it was. Will check and get back.

Edit: Yes, same person. GVI ascent definitely disputed, serious route. No idea about veracity of the Denali claim though.
