I am on my way on 19 July 2013.

Going with a fantastic tour group so everything booked through them.

About 3000 $.

Sounds expensive! I am going in August for about $1000 with Pilgrim tours. All in, with air etc about $1800. Enjoy!

ScottyP, is that an $800 airfare to MRV from CA? I'd really like to know how you found that!

ScottyP, I guess it is all relative. Difficult to determine what is cheap and what is expensive, without a direct comparison.

I guess it really depends what is included in the Pilgrim Tours package.

Climbing it in Mid July with my girlfriend no guides. It's her first big mountain. Should be tough.

I was planning on bringing my own tent (privacy) rather than stay in the barrels. Anybody see any issues with this? Where do people not staying in the barrells usually camp?

Ivan, local certified mountain guide and expert of the Elbrus area guides you there for 925€ for the 9-day tour (if you are 3, cheaper if more clients). More info here https://www.explore-share.com/countries/russia/activities/mountaineering/853-climbing-mount-elbrus-5642m
I have been in touch with several people who went with him. Feedbacks were very good ! I know he has a few groups for this summer. All the best guys and enjoy the view from up there ;) !!
