I'm trying to email or PM members Jodan and FSdaos.

I received the following emails:

FSdaos sent the following message:

Hi Scott,
I'm Donna and I work for the Center of Design & Interp out of Lakewood..with a part of the Forest Service. We're developing Byers Peak Wilderness TH panels for the Arapaho Roosevelt NF. There's a possibility that some of your photos might work well on these panels....so I'm wondering about permission to use. Of course you'd be credited. Thanks for considering!
Donna

Jodan sent the following message:

Hey Scott,
Looks like you know the Unitas really well. My girlfriend and I are planing about an 11 day backpacking trip this August. If you had 11 days to hike out there where would you go? Looking for a good loop with lots of fishing a few people. were not too concerned about bagging a lot of peaks. More lake hoping. We might do one to two peaks, but we have a dog so we'd have to be selective on how technical the peaks are.

Thanks Scott!

Jordan

Just some of the many, many emails I get, but can't respond to. I'm not sure why I can't find their profiles (maybe they got banned?), but still you can never respond to an email.

Can we PLEASE get the email system disabled? It is by far the worst feature on SP. What good is an email system you can't respond to? It is incredibly annoying. Please delete or disable it ASAP. If you do keep it, maybe at least include the senders email address when they send you one.

Some folks have emailed me and it has worked.

It would be better to include their email addresses in the communication though.

Could you respond to the email though?

I'll email you to show what I mean.

What good does it do to get an email you can't respond to?

It should probably be disabled for now. But it should not be deleted. In SP Version 4 I hope this gets addressed (fixed). In elfville I plan on making a call for additions when the time comes.

Right. But it's going to be months before this could be added.

I could respond because they told me their email in the writeup.

I know what you mean.

It would work fine that way, but most new members don't know they are supposed to do this because most other email systems are set up so you can respond to them.

I actually get a whole lot of emails and seldom do they include the address.

It should probably be disabled for now.

Thanks Josh. I will take back most of that stuff I said about you.

This is where you use your elf powers. The email includes their username - right? So type up their username in the people list, click their profile, and click edit profile on that person. You'll see their email address. Yes annoying, but it's all we got for now.

And to everyone who thinks that's sneaky: It's not being sneaky if it's done only to the members who emailed you. If this glitch didn't exist you would already expose your email to the member who you emailed. 8)

This is a common annoyance of the modern age. I get e-mails via meetup.com, and I have to go to meetup, find the person's profile, and respond via meet-up. One argument for this round-about system is: to preserve anonymity. Another is that people are getting stupider and stupider, and can't be expected to provide little details, like how to contact them.

Yes, but I can't find the profiles above. Did they get deleted?

Sometimes they are still in there but don't show up in the search. You have to scroll though pages and pages to get to their profile.

Also, not everyone who gets emails is an elf. I would bet that several members have the same problems and would like to see the system disabled.

How would a new member even know that the email is impossible to respond to? If there was a note, people would take a few moments to include a contact.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Other than to annoy everyone, what is the motivation for not disabling it?

I don't understand why it isn't just as easy to include a member's email address automatically along with their user name as it is to disable it.

If it could be done, that would be great!

Now here is the heart of the issue. Why do these folks have usernames that don't seem to exist on SP? Did they try to become members just to e-mail Scott, and somehow log out without finishing the process?
