Mammoth Lakes & Bishop: Favorite post-hike restaurants?

by tbaranski » Thu Jun 27, 2013 2:35 pm

I'm a big fan of doing ~8-hour day hikes starting early in the morning, eating very little before & during, and then eating a power dinner (and dessert!) right afterwards. Casual diner-like places are preferred -- in Tahoe for example I settled on Red Hut Cafe.

Any suggestions for good eats in Mammoth Lakes and Bishop?

Whiskey Creek in both Bishop and Mammoth has a happy hour from 5-6 (IIRC) where you can get many of their appetizers and entrees half price. The food is good but expensive at other times but fairly reasonable at happy hour, and they have a good selection of beer. I like going to the one in Mammoth for post-climbing cheer after a day on the ice in Lee Vining. Also, Jack's is good if you like a diner menu and feel.

Amigos is the best Mexican food i've found in Bishop. Going there after a trip has become a tradition.

Bishop-- The Back Alley Bowling Bar & Grill has great hot sandwiches, burgers, steaks, prime rib, and a few other things along with good beer selections and a full bar. Of course, you can bowl there as well.

I'm not sure if you'll be up around Matterhorn Peak, but if in Bridgeport, Rhino's serves great hot sandwiches, burgers, and steaks, and also has a full bar with good beer selections.

The Mono Cone is king in Lee Vining.

Cheaper, tastier, and less tourist infested than the alternatives.

Speaking of Mexican, we went to this place for lunch after 5 days in the Palisades (and completely running out of food on our last day), and were pretty satisfied!
