Why everybody should visit Scotland

by mallowman » Tue Mar 26, 2013 10:10 am

I went to Torridon in the northwest of Scotland in February for a winter climbing trip. Here's a link to an account of the trip. I hope you enjoy, thanks,
Stephen

if you want a bit of scrambling the new SMC book came out not too long ago

http://www.cordee.co.uk/Skye-Scrambles- ... -7610.html

i only have the larger climbing version but this should have various scrambling routes to the peaks on the main ridge

i dont have any experience with any other island specific guides, only the larger munro, corbett ones that are for the whole of scotland

if you need any advice specific advice on what to do then im happy to give you some ideas based if you tell me what your looking for.

My wife Penelope and I went to Scotland in the winter of 2010. It was the first time for me, fourth time for her (she's a Brit). I loved the mountains and the Scottish scenery overall. I would go as far as to say that Scotland's mountains and the general area of the Highlands are to me some of the best kept secrets anywhere. Wonderful climbing opportunities, great people, no crowds (in winter) and incredible scenery. Highly recommended.
I would love to visit again and we will. We just scratched the area (Tyndrum, Glencoe, Nevis) in 2010. One can stay in great and reasonable accomodations in the area and many climbs can be done as day trips, so one can combine comfort and climbing, something I have not been used to much. It is very easy to get used to Scotland.

Yes, I am completely agreed with you, Scotland is an amazing country for those who have interest in hiking and climbing. There are different hiking destinations such as West highland way, which is very popular for their natural beauty. If you want more information on West highland way, you can visit: http://www.hillwalkscotland.com/west-hi ... y-overview
