Ah, the Adirondacks... where you climb up something steep and see a tree 6 feet away.

Chimney Mountain is an unimpressive lump east of Indian Lake... except there happens to be a 40' tower of rock on top, the "chimney." The chimney is perched on a cliff, and there some breakdown caves in the rocks below -- often holding snow through the summer. I was last there about 1975.

looks good!
are you doing the NH 48? I am still "working" on the 46 HP's... but it seems climbing takes priority :(

yeah that area was so nice we're going back for Labor Day.

edit: woops, NH100 I guess? not the 48.

nice.
so I take it you've done the 46 too? I "started" in 2005. pretty lame... I'm not even close to finishing. I get these bouts of motivation to go hike but then I choose to climb instead.

I stopped at #30 in 1971! Back then, trailless peaks were really trailless, and we would try to string a lot together ((e.g. all the dixes) in a weekend, because most of us didn't even have drivers' licenses. But winter up there opened up a whole new world... and some trailless peaks are "easier" to do in deep snow!

I started the 46 in 1976, while still in high school. Got about 20 done. Moved away from the Northeast in 1979 and didn't move back until 2006. Well, not totally right since I was in Maine 84-90 but then I was focused on having fun in the Maine woods. Now I am up to 38. Life long pursuit? I keep on seeing talk about speed records. Is there a record for the LONGEST elapsed time to become a 46er? :-)

ps - Anita, lots of beautiful country in the central Adirondacks around Indian Lake. The Cedar / W. Canada Lakes are some of the most remote country on the east coast. Some interesting mountains and rock for you too! I can't wait to explore some of the land along the Hudson that the state is just opening up!
