overnight backpack, on/near summit

looking for suggestions for an overnight in the high peaks (or other area) of the ADKs.
ideally would like to bivy on or near a summit, but that may be difficult in terms of water availability. or I can just fill up and go minimal in terms of food (no stove required) and deal with it until heading back down.
has anyone done something like this? no lean-to's, would rather be up as high as possible.

I slept on top of Roosterscomb Peak 41 years ago. It's not too far a hike, gets you up to a bald with a view of the Great Range. You can then hit the GR the next day.

I also backpacked the east trail to Rocky Peak Ridge, and spent the night just east of Lake Mary Louise. You can get up early and be on the summit by sunrise. However, I do remember waking up with my flysheet covered in slugs.

santanoni bivy... what a shitty trail. I got spoiled in the sierra so I opted to wear light trail runners... yeah, bad idea.

mud season? it's always mud season it seems. yikes!
no we did not get 1 peak! packed up and left sunday, rained all night saturday. my shoes were finished.
I think we will go back though this fall (with boots) and do the same thing... really nice area. I'd never been there until this weekend.

Isn't there a small backcountry campsite pretty high up on the way up to Wright / Algonquin? If my memory serves me well, I think it was fairly high up just before you get to the Wright side trail. Just below the dreaded 4,000 foot mark.

Might be worth looking into?
