After years of research and failed attempts, The Dawn Wall Project is still a go. Chris Sharma joins the team, so Tommy Caldwell and company are back at it for another try. Kevin Jorgeson who has been a member but injured at times will be climbing as well. Jorgeson happens to own a indoor sport climbing complex here in NorCal and is the instructor for my nephew at his school, Vertex. Good luck to them all!

The only way to appreciate the enormity of what these guys are trying to do is to see Dawn Wall close up.

On a moonlit night I was sleeping not far from the base of El Cap. A rock, the size of a pickup truck, separated from near the top of the wall and plummeted all the way to the ground without hitting the wall. Watching the shadow of the falling rock against 3000 feet of smooth granite, falling almost like a feather, is unforgettable, so is the sound that it made when it hit.

I stood near the base this past week peering up and with high powered binocs and could barely see the climbers. Invision 500, six foot tall climbers standing end to end.........that makes El Cap.

The tallest building in the world falls short of El Cap by 278 feet.

The average step is 8 inches, so a ladder would take you 4,500 steps to get to the top.

For such a large endeavor seems strange that there is so little interest. Curious why?

What's funny about the reports is that these reporters think El Cap has never been climbed before. They don't seem to understand the difference between a "route" and a the whole wall, never mind understanding the difference between free climbing and aid climbing.

I've had to explain to people at work that free climbing is not free soloing; many seem to think the climbers are unroped.
