Trinity Alps Snow Level

by WillyTheDog » Wed Mar 05, 2014 1:07 am

Anyone know what the current snow level is in the Trinity Alps area? Or more specifically the White Trinities.

Been goin up there frequently for steelhead fishing, last i went was mid February, didnt see too much snow at the peaks.

Thanks.

Just call one of the ranger stations. They love to talk about that kind of stuff. With the exception of Yosemite, every ranger station I have ever called has had a human answer who has been incredibly helpful.

If you don't want to talk to anyone, call the Fifth Season climbing conditions report for Mt. Shasta (530.926.5555). That should give a you an idea at least. When I listened to it yesterday, there was decent coverage above 7,000 ft. Trinities should be similar.

My friend who lives up there said it's very low, we are going to take a backpacking trip towards the end of the month. Probably will head to one of the meadows since there be could be considerable snow around 6k. We need a lot more rain though...

Also, great link jibmaster!

clmbr,

For the Trinity Alps trip link? Don't know. Why not try contacting these guys (per the article)?:

Trinity Alps trio
Dennis Campbell, 37, guide for 10 years for Shasta Mountain Guides and Alpine Ascent International out of Seattle. Has climbed and alpine-skied major ranges in North and South America. Summited Mount Shasta 76 times. Works as an avalanche educator and with Cal Fire.

Chet Kyle, 41, has worked as a rescue specialist on Mount Shasta and is an elementary school teacher. He has summited Shasta 60 times, crossed the Sierra off-trail in a 300-mile trek, and climbed and snowboarded virtually every major mountain peak in California. He's also certified as a rafting guide and has been at the oars on 20 significant whitewater rivers in the Western United States.

Ray Pettengell, 36, a former mountain guide with Shasta Mountain Guides and Sierra Wilderness Seminars, now works for TerraMai, which sells common and exotic reclaimed woods products. He has traveled Central America, South America and Africa, and climbed the highest peaks at each. An expert videographer and photographer.

Hope you get many Shasta summits this year.
Best,
JM
