July 28, 2014 - Missing 13-year-old Hiker Found in Kings Canyon National Park

The missing hiker, Austin Shedd, was airlifted from Kings Canyon National Park today. He was evaluated by a Parkmedic and found to be uninjured and in good condition. Shedd has been reunited with his family.

Thanks for the timely posting and updating of events. The search area of concern certainly gave me pause as it is the general area of the disappearance, and eventual discovery, of Randy Morgensen, a very experienced backcountry ranger and friend.


Tangentially, I have in the past recommended to personnel at Sierra Nevada governmental management agencies that they might use SP's experienced postings to update their conditions reports. Alternately, being only an occasional visitor to SP myself, I wonder how long any of these agencies may have been posting time sensitive searches and such here at SP.
