How hard it is to climb the Matterhorn?

by ClimbingTrotter » Wed Dec 17, 2014 11:19 am

Hello adventurers,

This is another 'how to' article, this time about climbing Matterhorn. Personally, one of the most beautiful mountains in the Europe. There are lots of tips and advices in this blogpost and I would very much like to read your point-of-view and experience about this climb. Anything new you suggest, I'll include in the article (with a thank you, linking to your profile on this forum) so feel free to comment.

So, here it is :)

Nice one. The pre-requisites of this climb are carefully summarized.
What's missing:
  • The ability not just to manage the difficulties, but to climb fast enough in order to stuff the whole trip in one day.
  • Downclimbing (seems to be a foreign word to many, even good sports climbers...)
  • To deal with exposure -- every mistake may be lethal
  • To stay focused during the long day, esp. when descending.
  • A sense for route finding (up & down as well)
  • To cope with lots of idiots trampling on your rope, causing rockfall, messing up your belay, blocking the route, ...
(therefore it's not on my wishlist...)

The following user would like to thank Flachlandtiroler for this post
