Anyone planning on doing Everest ridge in near future?

by mikejfrancis » Sun Mar 15, 2015 5:40 pm

or any other somewhat prominent peak?

I'm trying to get into mountaineering but I don't want to pay 500 bucks for a course with Exum. I've been out a few times, I have experience with an ice axe, I have decent gear, and I'm in relatively decent shape.

I'd buy you a burger and or some beers if any group wouldn't mind a novice tag along to learn the ropes.

The short approach for that climb is what draws my attention. In WY, you walk farther than that to get a WIFI signal in town. ;) Have you ever done anything with close to 3500ft gain in a little over a mile? I'm not trying to be mean, but people don't jump at the opportunity to take newer climbers they've never met on climbs like these. .....that's why Exum can charge $500. ;)

Yeah it doesn't have to be Everest ridge. Looks amazing but understandably not one to tackle without some experience. I'm just looking for a few guys with more experience than myself to learn from, doesn't matter where.

Try the Wasatch Mountain Club. They have snow climbing classes in early May that cost $5.

I think Montana Mountaineering club has a 2 day course for around $250 as well.
