Conditions in the South Lake area

by tbaranski » Sun Aug 16, 2015 12:21 am

Wonder how much smoke from the Rough Fire is hitting the South Lake area? Hoping to do a couple hikes down that way this week.

Thanks for any info.

I'm in Aspendell nearby and it has been smokey in the late afternoons beginning 3:30ish and hanging on until 6:30 or 7 when it has seems to clear out a little. Early morning through early afternoons have been OK.

Thanks Scott. Was in Little Lakes Valley today and also witnessed this -- smokey at ~5am when I started, but much better a few hours later. Was wondering if this is typical or if it was just a freak thing.

Coming out of Taboose Cyn yesterday was terribly smokey and all day today in Bishop is ridiculous - can NOT see mountains on either side of valley. Thanks to two big fires in the west, the smoke backcountry will remain bad for several more days. Lone Pine is griping about smoke today too.
