I'll be in Vegas early next month. I called off the idea of mountain climbing originally but now i may have a little more time than thought. What does Boundary Peak look like at moment is there a lot of snow? If I were to climb on June 13th what should I expect ice ax/crampons or just old fashioned hiking? Has anyone been here recently? thanks

I haven't been there but one trick would be to look at the Whitney Zone Forums for the current main Mt. Whitney trail conditions. If the main Whitney trail is just old fashioned hiking, the Boundary Peak certainly will be as well.

Just saw a report where the Sierras got slammed with snow. Someone turned around on the Whitney main trail due to deep snow. But a lot can change in a few weeks this time of year. Whitney definitely holds more snow than Boundary.

There are no SNOTEL sites in the White Mountains but all of the sites to the east are showing 40%-50% of normal snowfall this season. I don't think it's a big snow year up there but as said, things can change with a big storm or two.

Looking up from Bishop today, the Whites seem pretty white above about 11,000', pretty bare below. I think the upper elevations got a nice touch-up from the last round of storms (the east side of the range was looking nice and snowy eight days ago, last time I was over there), but it was a thin winter, so I doubt there's a real deep base, and it should be melting fast. I'd be pretty surprised if by June you encounter more than a few patchy snowfields.

Thanks everyone, its looking like it may be moot anyways as my extra free day may be evaporating, but we'll see as it gets closer how weather and family cooperate.
