Shepherd's Pass Conditions

by huntersthompson » Mon Jun 13, 2011 7:02 pm

Has anyone made the trip up and over Shepherd's Pass yet? If so, what were the conditions? I would also love to hear from anyone who has gone up Williamson and/or Tyndall on their experience. Thinking of the Long and Twisting Rib for Williamson and the main rib for Tyndall. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Shepherd Pass is still snowy. Tyndalls north rib is free of snow. The top of the rib to the ridge is a thin layer of snow over slabs.

Thanks hvydrt....did you happen to note if any of the lakes in Williamson Bowl were accessible? Did it look as if there were camping sites (preferably not on snow) in Williamson Bowl or is it still snowbound? Trying to figure if camping will occur at Anvil or above the pass....thanks for any wisdom you can impart...

You could camp on dirt at Anvil and Shepherd Pass but the Williamson bowl was still mostly covered in snow and the lakes were still frozen.

Leaving for trip on Wednesday....does anyone know if Symmes Creek is torential? Trying to figure out if it is worth the 6 hour journey....Ranger stations were not all that helpful. They definately give you the worst case scenario...."We don't know for certain what it is like, but prepare for the worst."

Crossed Symmes Creek yesterday....water is moving and you have to get wet to get across.....all four times. With that said, it is absolutely doable...clear water and easy to see where you feet are going. Recommend trekking poles to help stablilize.
