MSNBC news article.

The article doesn't mention his family, but I hope this brings closure for them.

Actually it says that the family has been notified. But right, at least they now know what happened and where.

"Holland disappeared while hiking a treacherous route known as Slipstream, a frozen waterfall on a 11,338-foot peak called Snow Dome on the Columbia Icefields in April 1989, CBC News said."

The article states that the accident happened after the climb, as they were starting down.

"Bill Holland disappeared over the edge of a cliff in Jasper National Park. He was looking for a way down from the summit of Snow Dome mountain after climbing a frozen waterfall called a slipstream. He stepped onto a cornice, packed snow hanging over a cliff's lip, and began prodding with a ski pole. The ground gave way and Holland disappeared."
