Joe Puryear has been killed climbing in Tibet.

With a long thread at: http://www.supertopo.com/climbers-forum ... d-in-Tibet

In recent years Joe and his climbing partner Dave Gottlieb had been doing the kind of climbs that most people only talk about - FA of Kang Nachugo, FA of Jobo Ribjang, PFA of Trakargo and more. Their climbs were inspirational to many of us. Joe climbed with a lot of passion and care for both the mountains and those who lived around them.

Joe and I swapped a lot of information about these kinds of mountains and I know why he went where they did. I always figured he would come back and we'd do it all over again.

I wish his friends and family, and especially Dave, condolences on the loss of Joe, all strength for the times ahead and thanks for helping make him who he was.

Terrible news, I just saw the same on the Alpinist site. Didn't know him personally, but his writing in particular has been a source of inspiration.

Terrible News. I really love his Alaska Climbing guide book. I emailed him at least once and he was very helpful in providing me with additional information.

Bummer!

Ran into him and his wife on the 4th P of the EB of Whitney(they nicely let me pass em up) in early August on my final C-C solo run up that route. Nice dude.

Peace in the next dimension Brother.
