I was there last week and did the Narrows on Thursday. It started raining Friday afternoon and so my partner and I canceled our plans for more canyons. The two should never have been out there on Saturday given the clear weather forecast for the area.

I find it interesting and ironic that the guy who more or less swam for it lived while his friend, who did what most of us thought would be prudent and waited it out, died. Sad. My condolescences to his friends and family.

FatDad it is interesting. All other things being equal, I'd say it's still good basic advice to stay put and let the water level and flow recede. 'Course maybe the survivor was a particularly strong swimmer. Still, never should have happened. The storm was so bad they closed the park for a day.

Maybe, but we don't know that. He might have tried to swim out at a later time.
