Looks like Denali will be the official name for the highest mountain in North America once again.

Good to hear, the mountain has always been Denali. About time its true name was restored!

Of course the Ohio politicians are crying about it.

The Daily Show did a great segment last July regarding Ohio politicians blocking Denali from becoming the officially recognized name again!

For being one of the few presidents who actually respects Native American names? :?

In 1896, a gold prospector named it McKinley as political support for then-presidential candidate William McKinley

Really the original naming was a political ploy to help someone get elected for president. Seems like a bad reason to name a mountain after someone. Especially when its already been named. At the time Denali wasn't even in our country!

They would probably rather you call it mckinley than to call them native americans. The natives in alaska are native alaskans and they will be the first to correct that and the last to notice what you call the mountain. Thats just my experience from living up here. Really most of them could care less what people call the mountain

Must be a while since you were up here, dude--you've even forgotten the term for Alaska Natives. Anyway, our Republican legislature and congressional delegation have been asking to have that name fixed for about 40 years. The issue has not been very controversial here--the older name (Denali) is what most people have been calling it. Glad the Secretary of Interior finally made it official.
