GPS Maps for NZ

I'm heading south in about 3 weeks and am looking to load my Garmin Map 60CSx with the right maps for kiwiland.

Garmin has nothing available and all I can find available on-line are free roads-only maps or rather expensive ($100+) contour maps.

Does anyone know of a source for free or reasonably priced NZ digital maps?

Howdy Vancouver.

I will be in Christchurch in 10 days and had a similar query. I am going to http://mapworld.co.nz/ to see what they have to offer/recommend.

I also googled this thread

http://forums.gps.org.nz/viewtopic.php?t=2532

Seems bloody expensive.

So tell us, what are you two blokes going to be up to down there? Thinking of heading down in March but on the fence with decision for now....cheaper to fly then. Otherwise, I am looking at late November.

ktnbs and charles,

I am just going down for 2 weeks in 10 days. Plan is to spend a week practicing/training NZ grade 3 climbs and then have a go on Mt Tasman via Ledenfeld.

I was going to stick around and try Sefton from Scotts Creek, but I may have to go home and buy a new computer ,will see which of my alter ego wins.

I was looking at his site last week. It's really quite well done.

Charles and others heading down south imminently.

I leave in about a week and, after visiting friends in Auckland, have rented a car (dirt cheap by our standards Can$20/day all-in) and will go where the wind blows me until I fly back on March 18.

My hit list includes unfinished business on the North Island - Taranaki and Ngarahoe - before crossing the Straits for:

Mt Arthur and The Twins in the Kahurangi National Park
Mt Angelus, Nelson Lakes
Arthurs Pass Peaks - Avalanche, Bealy, Lyell etc
Mt Olliver
Caples Track
Rees Dart Track

Nothing technical as I expected to be alone.

I have a buddy who is down there on sabbatical at the moment. Depending on how his conscience is functioning, he might be tempted into getting out with me. If this works out and a partner is involved, I could easily be persuaded to add/substitute Aspiring and Earnslaw and maybe something else. All manner of gear is going in my duffle anyway.

If this is of interest to you, send me a PM or email and we'll see how the land lies. The only thing I won't consider is a "Great Walk".
