It's in the dining room with late reservation, I don't think that you can sleep in the boot room

When we went, we stopped off at the tourist bureau in Chamonix and had them call up there. They indicated there would be enough room. We slept under the dining room table on the floor. It will be plenty warm, so just a foam pad will make things more comfy. Don't plan on being able to stretch out much. It's like being packed into a sardine can. Your other option is to stay lower at the Tete Rouse hut - it adds more time to the climb, but you are more likely to get a spot there.

I would second the suggestion of staying in the Tete Rouse hut if you don´t fancy sleeping under the table.

lynsandtone, in my opinion the best option is to pitch camps near Tete Rouse and Gouter huts, that's what we did in 2001. In 1990 we slept in Gouter and only reached Vallot hut

When you camp for 1 night near Gouter hut it´s no problem. There are always some tents there and when you leave after 1 day you don´t get problems.
I agree with Moni, when you sleep at Tête Rousse you will sleep better (than on the floor). When you are fit and you doesn´t mind about a little bit more walking it´s the better alternative!

Thanks for your advice and experiences. They are all much appreciated and have given me some food for thought. Having carried a tent up to the Aguille de Gouter before I don't really prefer that option and will hopefully get a spot on the hut floor. Either way its not for the longest sleep ever.
