Posted: Tue Jul 10, 2007 9:46 pmI just got back from 3 weeks in Chamonix and had the good fortune to be able to climb Mt Blanc...but I have never seen such unpredictable weather during my stay. Storms would come on quickly (high winds and even hail) and the majority of the time the weather reports were wrong. It was likely this strange weather that contributed to these folks misfortunes...hope they are ok.
Posted: Wed Jul 11, 2007 10:47 amHappy to say the two Italian climbers have been found and are well and truely alive. Lucky they were experienced and new how to survive overnight in harsh conditions.
I have also just returned from a week in Chamonix and couldnt believe the weather either. Last Tuesday I got stuck on the Pointe Lachenal Traverse near the foot of Mt Blanc du Tacal in a massive storm and it took 5 hours to get back to the ADM station - should have taken an hour in good conditions, only to find the cable car was cancelled at 3pm.
A cold night spent in the tunnel with quite a few others. A big thanks to 8 Lithuanians who had spare food and cooking utensils and helped us and a few others get through a very unconfortable and cold night!

Posted: Wed Jul 11, 2007 3:51 pmWeathered that same storm in the Aiguilles Rouges. Fortunately we had a tent waiting for us to dive into. I can imagine being on mont Blanc. Of course none of us should have gotten caught out in the first place because the weather obviously was bad and getting worse.
Posted: Sat Jul 14, 2007 2:03 pmOn the first week of July a group of Polish climbers has been pinned by an avalanche and bad weather on the Italian normal route for several days. Three died. Circumstances where more or less the same as those described here

Posted: Thu Jul 19, 2007 12:50 pmA group of 8 of us were on the Tour du Mont Blanc at the same time and we decided to abandon it after 6 out of 7 days of poor weather and an additional 2-3 days of forecasted poor weather ahead.
By the time we got to Champex, nearly everybody who started the same day as us in Les Houches had quit.
It has been a really nasty start to summer over there.
