Hiking in Serbia

I will probably visit Serbia this summer, and would like to go hiking there.

What do you think is the nicest place(s) to hike in Serbia?
I am flexible with any circumstances - all I want is the best possible hiking experience!

I've read (on Summitpost etc) about Kopaonik, Stara Planina, Suva Planina, Tara national park and Kamena Gora... what is your favourite?

No first hand experience, but I asked a friend who grew up there. His recommendations:
- Montenegro :-)
- Tara +whitewater +Durmitor

Montenegro is not in Serbia.... ;)
I have already been there, I was in Durmitor, Tara and Projkletije. Fantastic places :)

Isn't it a part of the Carpathians located in North East Serbia ? Does someone know about this area from the hiking point of view ?

Yes, in the Serbian part of the Carpathians (next to Danube) is a national park called Derdap. I drove through this area once, along the Danube, and it looked very nice.

Try contacting Vlado, he can give you a lot of first-hand information.

Eric, the place you asked about is part of the Big Plain, see this map.

I know, but for the background of the Transcarpathian project I am studying the possibility to make Beograd the south end of the long distance trail.
As far as I know there is no bridge over the Danube near the Iron Gates to link conveniently the official "Serbian Carpathians" to the rest of the trail, so I am studying options to make the trail stay on the north of the river, and crossing the most interesting places, in order to reach the south end of the Romanian Carpathians.
The region I found sounds like a good idea, but it is not completely in the neighbourhood of Beograd (a part of the big plain still remains between), and I am not sure the bridge I saw on Google Earth (there is a tributary river) is an official toll between Serbia and Romania
