I made it! And it was awesome! Acclimatization for the first time ever was no problem. However I had spent a lot of time making a good acclimatization schedule. On summit day I started at 4200m and summited in six hours. The last 1000 vertical meters I did solo. Felt great all the time and pretty much `ran` past everyone to the summit. We teamed up with 3 Norwegians. Unfortunately none of them made it to the summit.

I will write more when I get back. We are now in Pyatagorsk or something, where two days ago terrorist blew up a barwith 20kgs of explosives. This place is now not too easy to move around in as a foreigner... .

Learned a lot since last year. No problems this far, except for our luggage getting lost. But unlike Benjamin we got it back after 1 day.

Sweet, so that's at least 3 Belgian SP-ers above 5000m this summer. Belgian power !

Congrats Wouter. I hope we can look forward to some photos/details when you get back. Well done, must of felt even better after missing out last year. You're well acclimatized for the alps now!!

For sure! Did you make it up Mont Blanc yet? I am now more motivated than ever to still do it this year. But I also know that it will be very hard to get the time off. If I can do it soon however, I might still be acclimatized... .

You'll only stay acclimated for about a week, so you'll have to be quick. I was a little faster on my usual training hike when I came back from Peru but not much. Of course, it's not very high. Is June too early for Mt. Blanc? Probably huh?

Hey Wouter, so glad you made it, plus you make it sound like an easy trip. Why do you think you acclimatized so well on this tour, was it the pace and rest altitudes??

We summited with Pilgrim on 20/8/10, after approx 8 hours from the bottom of Pastukhova Rocks, around 4400m I think, also we used the snowcat. Perfect weather - zero clouds OR wind for ascent and descent, but I felt the altitude hard from the saddle and the ataxia lasted all the way to the summit and back down to 4500m.

Hi Michael, glad to hear you summited as well. Somehow it WAS an easy trip for me this time. I walked with my friend and the remaining Norwegian guy from 2 in the morning untill it got light at about 4.30 - 4.45. Then I left them because they were moving too slow. At that point we were only halfway the pashtukov rocks. I finished the remaining part in no time and summited at about 7.45.

As I said, I did spent a lot of time on an acclimatization schedule at home, and I followed it while on the mountain. Somehow I think that it was spot on. I'll post it here when I have a little bit more time.

I hope you do as well on Kili. I'm planning to go there in Februari, so maybe you could write up a little trip report .
