My husband and I are seeking advice on hiking / peak bagging and back country camping in the Spanish Pyrenees. We live in Spain and therefore are flexible on route origination. We have intermediate level experience and have exceeded 3000m summits in California, including Mount Shasta, Mount Dana, etc. We have beginner level experience in ice climbing and technical climbing, but we prefer to do non-technical climbs initially (we are open to advice on those as well) We also have intermediate level experience in back country hiking / camping.

Need specific advice on:

Backcountry laws / permits (ie where are we allowed to tent camp, fires etc)
Gear advice
Pyrenees beginner summits

Our timeframe is mid to late September of 2015, 5-7 days.

Any advice is appreciated, or a redirection to agencies that can be more specific for us.

Jeannie :D

Hello Jeannie,
I'm planning to go on a hike this summer with some friends and mix it with the ascent of Mont Perdu.
Here is our plan
1. The tour of Pic du midi d'Ossau - night in the Pombie hut
2. Traverse to refuge Arémoulit or till Larribet (Balaïtous range)
3. Go to Wallon hut through Cambalès path
4. Go to Oulettes hut through Arratille and mulets path
5. Go to Gavarnie passing by Baysselance hut and the Ossoue valley

We will then spend 3-4 days with a guide doing the following https://www.explore-share.com/countries/france/activities/mountaineering/1307-climbing-mont-perdu-pyrenees-. Javier seems to be very flexible and can adapt the program based on the time you have and what you wish to do.

Good luck !
