Hollental Route up Zugspitze end of October?

Hello all,

A friend and I are travelling to Garmisch on the 24th of this month and where hoping to head up the Zugspitze via the Hollental route but from what I can gather this may not be possible. We both have basic mountaineering skills and good kit, we're happy to camp out as I know the huts will be closed. I've been keeping an eye on the weather forecast but I'm not sure how much snow will close the route. Can anyone shed some light on whether the route will be doable and if not is the Reintal route a viable alternative?

Many thanks.

Tom.

hey you!!

first of all, this route is LONG. if there are significant amount of snow on the summit push then you will be climbing without the benefit of via ferrata. i would say 10 hours one way, with 7 on the descent.

this is possible. it all depends on the snow. if the upper mountain is free with few patches of snow i d say go for it. be sure to bring crampons and ice axe.

reintal route is possible. just a class 1-2 slog upwards.

i would recommend hollental. fun climb. pack light, move fast.

let me know if you have more questions

Hello,

I am looking to hike the Reintal route in the first few days of October this year. Is it still possible to hike this route at this time? Thanks!
