Is there a course/program in May, in the Colorado area, that offers learning some of the basic skills needed in mountain climbing- namely working with crampons, crevice rescue, etc? June would work as well..

If not, I may also be in Oregon around that period of time.. any suggestions there?

Thank you!

You're probably looking for the mountaineering courses.
I've only seen a brief presentation on avalanches from them which was super basic, so no real experience with them.

Total Climbing (aka Colorado Mountain School) has a solid program and reputation. You also should consider just a private hire of a guide from them or other to customize what you want to learn. Well worth the money to accelerate your learning.

Other front range guides you should consider hiring are Eli or Majka. I know there are many more around the metro region; these are guides I have personal experience with in the mountains. Cheers!

Another one to consider is the Pikes Peak Alpine School.

The Colorado Mountain Club, does those type of classes up here at St. Mary's Glacier pretty frequently. Your off on the right path....
