What time of the year are flies and mosquitoes seen and found the least in the Sierra Nevada Mountains? I tend to see them alot in meadows in the higher elevations.

If you think the Sierra has bugs, visit the Rockies. Our worst days would be a relief.

I carry couple yards of net to rest or sleep under when I hit a bad spot. I've had trips where they'd be heavy in one spot and a mile away nuthin. For no reason at all. Next to a river nothin. On the side of a steep mountain, swarms. By a swamp, nothing.

I did the High Sierra Trail the first week of August last summer and experienced next to no bugs the entire way.

Go when you want to. Don't be a wimp and let the bugs dictate your schedule.

If you think the Rockies are bad, visit the Everglades!

...on a side note, that hike descent off of El Cap last 4th of July really was something else mosquito-wise...forget Everglades, think Nam!

During my inital years in the Sierras we took neither tent nor mosquito repellent...
