What is there to do in Kennedy Meadows

Anyone who has come up the eastside has seen the sign, Kennedy Meadows 25 miles ->. What is up there for people to do. I saw on the web that hunting and fishing are popular up there. Is there any climbing or hiking? Is it mostly high desert? I heard it is a cool place to ride dirtbikes. I would be willing to make a side trip if it is worth it. Any comments?

I haven't hunted there, but know some who have and I have sseen lots of game. I have road dirtbikes there. There are some awesome single track routes. Done some backpacking also. Their are some cool places to camp up there and some relatively easy peaks with nice views. If you don't mind carrying in the gear there are also some places to do some cragging nothing big that I know of though. Definitely worth the trip up. I don't know about the fishing there I haven't tried.

As far as being high desert I would classify it as more forested with nice meadows.

You can walk along the Kern river, and take a side trip to Crag Peak.

There's lots of 4WD roads up there. I've driven to Monache Meadows which is really beautiful.

Follow the PCT south from there for a bit and behold the Domelands.. go cross country trekking around that area and fish your heart out. :)
