Mono SAR had a call yesterday (8/17/13) for an injured climber on Clyde Minaret. The climber was successfully extracted, but gear was left behind. The climber left several pieces, and Mono SAR left two 11 mm low-stretch (sometimes called static) lines that became stuck on the final rap.

The SAR team was not able to climb back up to unstick the ropes due to darkness, and an early helo extraction this morning. If anyone goes up to climb the SE Face of Clyde Minaret, we would be grateful if you could drop the ropes and drop us a note so we could run in there and pick them up.

If anyone finds the lines and decides to keep them, which is well within your climber rights, please remember that these are low stretch, and not suitable for lead climbing.

We will keep this bumped up for a few days in hopes of getting lucky, but if not we may be able to go back in next weekend for retrieval. We are an all-volunteer team, and we would greatly appreciate getting those lines back as they are in very good condition and we have a low operating budget.

i hope you get your ropes back. thanks for being badasses. i hope i never need your help but it's nice to know that there's hope for rescue if it were to ever go south on an outing.

Before having read any of this, we were at the base to preview the climb on Thurs, Aug 29. We found some bail gear like this ...


... looking like they'd been found higher on the face by a climbing pair and let loose awaiting recovery. At the time, there was another party high on the route. We decided to coil up the ropes and stash them out of the sun like this ...

... thinking we might talk to the climbers about it when they came down.

But we piled in the tent for the night before they came down. Next day, Friday, we climbed the route not looking to see if the gear was still there. And we wound up bivy'ing that night somewhere on the descent route.

Saturday morning, Aug 31, we came down the Ken-Clyde Notch to find the ropes no longer there.
