Greetings,

I was wondering how rough is the road to the White Mountain Research Station. Will a low clearance 2 wheel drive make it without damage?

Thanks

I would be more worried about slicing a tire than 4-wheel drive or clearance. Drive SLOW.

My $0.02

I got a flat tire also on that road. Lots of sharp rocks.

I just drove it yesterday in my Nissan Frontier 4x2... did not get a flat but I drove it at about 10-20mph, it was painfully slow. Was just careful to avoid any rocks that looked sharp but in sections the road is full of rocks.

Might be a bit late on this, but I made the drive to Barcroft Gate on Sat Aug 9 in a front-wheel drive sedan (Audi A4, 4" clearance). Like others say, drive SLOW. The biggest issue isn't ground clearance but the risk of any number of random rocks giving you a flat tire.

The road did seem to get a decent bit of traffic over the weekend, which might provide some peace of mind to you. Otherwise, it's a long long way for a tow truck.

Depends what you mean by low clearance. We just did it (9-10) in a Prius - slowly. It's 12 miles and I averaged 11 mph. Touched a couple times. Lots of anxiety but no damage, to the car. No freakin' way do you bring your corvette.
