South Lake Rd 14 Dec 2014
Although a week before officially Winter, the snow is finally beginning to build up enough to get on skis just outside of Bishop. Less than an hour after this photo, snow clouds descended and it snowed another inch....and it continues.....

Thanks for sharing!

Vicarious pleasures are just fine when I'm stuck in my home office, the rain is coming down as hard as last week (7+ inches last Thursday and 1.5+ inches today!) and I can't stop daydreaming of getting into the backcountry...very glad that someone is enjoying it!

Lake Sabrina 15 Dec 2014

And today....snowfall most of the day with winds 20+mph; nice chilly temps keeping that new snow from today quite dry and fluffy. The road to Sabrina is wind packed and crusted with a base of ice, compared to 6" powder down to asphalt on South Lake Rd yesterday.

The trail to Grass Lake is stomped down into a slick luge. At least a foot of powdery snow off trail, nearly 2' at Grass Lake. Here's look at Emerson today if anyone is interested; almost looks climbable.

Today the Little Lakes peaks all look climbable....except Abbott. Hourglass has the upper third stripped clean due to recent harsh north winds but the couloir appears to be filled in pretty good sans the "V" shape bald spot. Stay on trail or suffer post-hole mania! Very powdery and dry, some areas have a 3" crust covering dry faceted grains....can't build a snowman. :(

Anyone climbed any 14ers recently and have pics to share of the snow conditions? Looking for near summit ski descents and not sure where there is any snow. I'm sitting here in Mammoth and the snow is certainly sparse......

I know Shasta has continuous snow right now but it's too icy up high for my taste

Beautiful ski trek on Piute Pass trail today. Easily a foot and more of fresh snow from last storm. Very dry and not filling in the obstacles yet, but definitely worth a trip.

Hey Deb-

Where would I park for access to North Lake / Piute Pass right now? Where did you put on skins? Thanks for the motivating photos!!

The gate is closed just out of Aspendell before Cardinal Pinnacle; park there. I put skins on right away, skinned 5 miles nearly to Emerson and only had to take them off to scoot across logs over the stream. More snow coming this weekend! :D

Would also love to hear what the snowpack around the Palisades is like. Want to head up to Winchell in April and would camp at Sam Mack.
