Yes, we are looking at Peakbagger and other logs to try to get some clues on Brad's destination.

If anyone has a direct line to the elves / owners, there are several IP addresses that we'd like to check the SP logs for, assuming access logs from Thu/Fri last week still exist. I PM'd the elves earlier today but have yet to hear back. They can PM me or, preferred, email me at matt at mattj dot net.

Just got back from spending the day up there. It's a very professional operation they have going, I must say I was impressed. Still, no sign of Brad. There were three summits in the area with registers - The Nipple, West Deadwood and Peak 9,205ft. None of them had been signed by Brad (who we're told, ALWAYS signs them). They've covered all the obvious, the unlikely, and the long shots. I made two loops in the area, came up empty and more perplexed.
https://www.snwburd.com/bob/maps/nipple_2.html

I noted a few places one could get hurt and hard to find: The NE Face of Peak 9,626ft. The upper portion of Snow Canyon between 8,400ft and 9,000ft. The North Face of the Nipple's west summit.

hmm ... i failed to incorporate this into my earlier thinking.

i created a list of peaks 10mi radius around brad's car to make it easier to see which peaks he might have been considering: http://www.peakbagger.com/list.aspx?lid=-932271&cid=15459#ListMap

so assuming he picked up the nipple, and then was on the PCT east(south) of the nipple when arbitton spotted him, then that opens up a possibility of 8445 south of BLR. it seems less likely he'd head across BLR to either jeff davis or markleeville. JD being a technical climb it seems unlikely he'd attempt it solo, and if he were to combine peaks on the east of BLR then i could see a markleeville + thornburg combo as a more likely long day hike, and it would be unlikely to start that hike from UBL. so that leaves me with 8445.

i drew up a map of options involving nipple + 8445: https://caltopo.com/m/6VG5

nipple + 8445 + return to car: 12mi + 2500' ... well within reason.

if instead he continued clockwise around the loop and added in 9205 to that: 16mi + 4000' still pretty reasonable for finishing before dark, given the 9:30am spotting by arbitton.

adding in deadwood on that loop would enter the very unlikely territory, and that's already been searched significantly.

the thing is: i'm not aware of anything dangerous between nipple and 8445... there is some enjoyable cross-country (see my descent http://www.peakbagger.com/climber/ascent.aspx?aid=585380) which includes a bunch of easy scrambling... but since arbitton indicates "nearing BLR" it seems more likely he went for the trail.

Dean, the contact with arbitton may be a red herring. His phone was last located at Carson Pass at 10a Saturday. So it is unlikely that he got started at Upper Blue Lake until at least 10:30a. That's at least an hour off from arbitton's 9:30a sighting. Also, Brad's name was not found in the Nipple register.

Sadly, Brad was found today, apparently had a fall on peak 9626 near Deadwood Peak. Thank you everyone who helped with the search.
