I last climbed Telescope Peak on January 2, 1981. I came to a trailhead on the northwest side of the peak which I had approached from the west on a road out of Lone Pine, California. The access that is listed now is only from the east from within the national park. Has the western access been shuttered?

As far as I know, the only trail access is from within the park via Mahogany Flats.

Other routes exist; many require 4wd.

I just took both routes from within the park off the 190 and exited 6 miles west of the charcoal kins. The road is called Wildrose Rd.
It's semi paved And spits you out south of the 190. Maybe 10- 15 miles. You should have no problem with no snow. I have a suburu Crosstrek and had no clearence issues.
I parked at Charcoal Kins and hike from the lot
The last 3 miles to charcoal kins is a dirt road.

Hiking Telescope peak is much quicker to gong up Trona/wildrose Rd.
